First Fire Truck

The picture above is a clipping from a November 5, 1948 Portland Press Herald.  On November 4th, Fred C. Batty, Jr. puts into service a 1922 International fire truck he had purchased at the Union Fair.  This is the first fire engine stationed in South Thomaston giving the community it's first fire protection.  Men on the truck from left to right are: Ernest Rackliff, Carroll Rackliff, Seth Batty, and Fred Batty, Jr.
